A Live-Action Pokemon Film Is Coming Next Year

In a move that surprises absolutely no one, it was announced today that a live-action Pokemon film is coming to theaters. In just two weeks, the popularity of the “Pokemon Go” augmented reality game has proven that the 20 -year-old franchise still has what it takes to be a worldwide phenomenon so a live-action movie certainly makes sense right now.

Although plot details have yet to be revealed, we do know that the film will feature Detective Pikachu, a new character from a 3DS game released earlier this year in Japan. Detective Pikachu is not as powerful as his Pikachu brethren but he is very intelligent and can talk to a human named Tim Goodman. Together, the duo solve mysteries in the adventure game.

The film will be a co-production between the Pokemon Company and Legendary Entertainment, who most recently co-produced the “Warcraft” feature film with Blizzard entertainment. Hmm…let’s hope the Pokemon movie fares a bit better…
